:: Rolling the Dice: Combat and experimental abilities ::Generally, a die may not be necessary to determine outcome of transmutations, but if it is against a PC character in combat, or your character is testing out a transmute that is part of his research (i.e. one he's not perfected/ learned yet), you'll be using one D20. This is for the purpose of reflecting the fact that Alchemists will have distractions and the chance of rebound depending on their level of skill and other outside influences.
:: How to Roll ::1)Make sure that when you are typing your reply utilizing an attack or new/experimental ability, you are writing the use of that ability as an ATTEMPT. Describe in your writing what it is that your character is attempting to accomplish by the transmute.
2)In your reply to the thread where you are utilizing the attack or new/ experimental alchemy ability, make a selection from the "Dices Rolls" field below the text editor. Select the "Attack Die", which is a D20, from the drop down box. Then make sure that the number "1" is entered into the "Dice Rolls" field. This will ensure only one roll is made.
3)When you are done with your post and selected your die, and are ready to submit, hit the Send button as usual. Below your post will appear a Dice Roll with the result.
4)Add or subtract the correct corresponding number(s) to your character's roll of the die as indicated on the table below:
Character Class | Ability bonus (add to D20 roll for learned abilities only.) | If in Combat against multiple opponents (3+) in close quarters | Unlearned/unperfected transmute attempts | |
A | +3 | -0 | -2 | |
B | +2 | -1 | -2 | |
C | +1 | -2 | -3 | |
D | +0 | -3 | -4 | |
E | X | -4 | X | |
The responder's post will have to reflect an appropriate affect, based on what was attempted in your post, and also based on the outcome of the die roll.
On your next post, you'll be able to respond through your character's reaction, to whatever the outcome ended up as.
